New York City’s Resilience Journey

New York City has over 520 miles of coastline, and nearly 400,000 of its eight million residents live in buildings that are physically vulnerable to coastal flooding and sea level rise. Faced with an aging building stock, an expanding 100-year floodplain, and rising costs of insurance, New York City’s coastal communities need to be better prepared. The city’s efforts to protect its neighborhoods could lead to replicable, cost-effective models for the rest of the world.
